Attendees: Frank Ramsay, Per Madsen, Mark Rand, Fred Reicher, Steve Rosenblum, John Blackmore and Mike Cooper
The meeting began promptly at 4:30pm. The board took action on the following items:
Approved the minutes for the Jan. 17, 2010 board meeting.
Proposed and approved the budget for FY 2010-2011, beginning April 1, 2010 and ending March 31, 2011. See the attached budget. Insurance costs have not changed.
Per Madsen presented the most recent meeting schedule. The club will hold its Annual Meeting and Election of Officers at the November 2010 meeting.
The Board discussed the results of Ed Marinaro's survey to hold a juried showing of woodworking items. The Board agreed to ask Ed to form and chair a committee to present a plan and budget to hold this show during this fiscal year.
Several times in the past year, the Board has discussed holding a special event featuring a noted woodworker and opening the presentation to other clubs and woodworking educational venues. The Board agreed to ask Jay Perrine if he would form and chair a committee to present a plan and budget for this program.
The BAWA library has seen very little use in the last several months. The Board approved the proposal to sell off all the library publications at the next several meetings of the club's membership.
The paid up membership of the club stands at 78 people. Several years ago, the club conducted a survey of the membership to ascertain its demographics and interests. The Board agreed that it was time to update this survey. John Blackmore will draft a survey for Board review. BAWA Board members are asked to submit their suggestion to John within the next two weeks. One idea to be explored is holding skill-building workshops on selected weekends. Skill topics might include: cabinet building, dovetail cutting and routing, shop tune-ups, use of hand planes and machine maintenance.
Frank Ramsay has finalized the drawings for a new gate at the Janet Pomeroy Center. He is waiting for the Center to secure funds to purchase the wood for the gate. John Blackmore offered to donate Alaskan Yellow Cedar if it is deemed to be of suitable quality. Frank will look at the wood during the week of May 24.
Should BAWA members be required to wear nametags at the monthly meetings? Yes. In the future, members will be required to wear either a wooden or paper nametag at all meetings. Attendees without nametags will be asked to write their name on and wear an adhesive backed tag.
Frank Ramsay presented additional information concerning the effort to develop an updated website for BAWA. He has downloaded a trial copy of the Dreamweaver program from Adobe. However, it is good only for 30 days and the permanent program costs $399. Frank will ask the BAWA membership for suggestions and volunteers to work on this project.
John Blackmore will investigate the availability and cost of a PO Box at the Woodside branch of the Post Office.
