"I wanted an ornate wood piece to give as a present to my sister. We are Indian and the paisley shape is a widely used ornament in fabric printing and in henna tattoos. The shape originated in Persia and was adopted by fabric printers in Glasgow, Scotland. I love the highly organic nature of the shape and the highly geometric nature of arabesque chip carvings and this piece combines these two ornament styles.
